IL GOP Chair for same-sex marriage

January, 2nd 2013
From the Daily Herald:
Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady of St. Charles is calling GOP lawmakers asking them to support a proposal to legalize same-sex marriage, he said today.
Brady said he was making the calls as a citizen, outside of his official role with the Illinois Republican Party.
"I think it's time for people to support this," Brady said.
Well done to Chairman Brady for stepping up and not merely taking this stance, but being prepared to reach out to...

The Day After Tomorrow

November, 4th 2012
It’s finally here, or about to be.
Yes, Election Day is the day after tomorrow. And after four years of watching the effort to remove President Obama from office play out (and periodically contributing to it in direct, professional ways), the time has come for me to make some firm decisions, and share them publicly.
Readers of this blog and my followers on Twitter will know that this election has proved a somewhat painful one for me, going back to 2009.
Having served on...

Dear Election...

October, 18th 2012
Dear Election:
I am giving serious thought to breaking up with you, and I want to put you on notice of that fact, clearly and explicitly, and in terms even you-- with your ADD and disconnect from other people's thoughts and emotions-- can understand.
You may have noticed me being grouchier than normal over the last couple of weeks, and rolling my eyes at things you do more frequently, and in a non-ironic kind of way.
I kind of thought you might have noticed why, all on your...

Some thoughts on the appropriate prompts for going apeshit over media bias

October, 2nd 2012
Apeshit.
I "go" it now and again. So do a lot of you. For me, it usually involves parking attendants at underground lots in Washington, DC, or incomptence or extreme laziness witnessed in the workplace. For my husband, it often involves Maryland drivers and dance music and Belgians (especially if combined together). For one of my best friends, it involves the health care system and patronizing doctors. For another best friend, it involves attitudes he encounters far too often in his...

The rare instance where the GOP should take a cue from California Democrats

September, 23rd 2012
What's that saying? Even a broken clock is right twice a day?
Brown on Saturday also signed a bill that allows registered nurses to dispense birth control, making it easier for women to get contraceptives.
[...]
"At a time when some seek to turn back the clock and restrict women's health choices, California is expanding access to birth control and reaffirming every woman's basic constitutional rights," Brown said.
The bill,...

Avik Roy gets conclusions about Ryan speech "oopses" mostly right

August, 30th 2012
This morning, in the wake of what I gather was a very solid convention speech by vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan (full disclosure: I missed it, due to an early night in advance of hubby sitting a professional exam at stupid o'clock this morning), liberals (and some non-liberals, including my friend Dave Weigel) are highlighting Ryan "hypocrisy" or "fibbing" (or "misleading," or whatever you want to call it) in his remarks.
I'll watch the full speech later, but based on the...

The FRC shooting and "hate crimes"

August, 16th 2012
Yesterday's shooting at the Family Research Council (FRC) has grabbed a lot of attention, and rightfully so. The shooter's actions were (obviously) abhorrent, and not something that we can or should accept, dismiss, overlook or pooh-pooh. I have had plenty of policy disagreements with the FRC throughout the years, and no doubt I will continue to have them, but the bottom line is that we live in a free country and nobody in a free society should fear for their lives or their personal safety...

New at Breitbart today: TSA FLAGS WORLD'S LARGEST WANG AS SECURITY THREAT

July, 21st 2012
A man reported to have the world's largest penis was flagged for additional screening as a potential security threat by Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials in the San Francisco International Airport earlier this month.
Jonah Falcon, the subject of an HBO feature on his distinctive anatomy, apparently triggered concern after passing through a body scanner machine and metal detector.
The TSA reportedly asked Falcon whether he had anything in his pockets, or if he...
