Peter Suderman as an Enemy of the State

Also having referenced CBO and cited CBO figures in underlining problems with various Obama policies at this very site and on Twitter myself, I can only assume that readers of this blog will be reporting to me to the White House immediately.

$1 Trillion More in Debt Since Obama Took Office

August, 4th 2009
That's the headline from CBS' Mark Knoller, who notes this morning that:
On Inauguration Day, the Debt stood at $10.626 trillion. The latest posting from the Treasury Department shows that as of July 31st, the debt hit $11.669 trillion.
During the last administration, it took over 2 ½ years for the National Debt to increase a trillion dollars.
President Obama's commentary on this situation that sounds an awful lot like passing the buck to me:
"They basically...

A tale of two polls

July, 31st 2009
Over recent days and weeks, I've noticed a heightened media focus on two topics that strike me as saying something important and relevant to the question of where the GOP goes from here, and how the party (further) rebuilds and puts itself into a position where it is clearly able to win back voters' support ahead of the midterm elections. I'm not thinking of health care or the Gates episode (for lack of a better term). I'm thinking of President Obama's polling numbers (say, those detailed...

Another big problem re: health care reform efforts

July, 31st 2009
No pun intended... Congress apparently has little interest in doing anything in health care legislation to deal with the problem of obesity:
Supposedly preoccupied with costs and how to reduce them, the various committees involved in producing health care legislation have all but ignored the, well, husky animal in the room: fat people.
With an epidemic of obesity enlarging the country, Congress — like many Americans blithely ignoring the gradual tightening of their waistbands...

MSNBC smackdown on Obama re: DADT

July, 30th 2009
This is from earlier this week and features my good friend Phil Klein:

Everyone in the segment is right: Time for Obama to pull his finger out.

Late to the party on this one, but please allow me to say...

July, 29th 2009
... that this is total BS:
Rep. Alcee Hastings has withdrawn an amendment that would have prevented the military from using money to carry out the provisions of its controversial Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy which prevents gays from serving in the military. He says he pulled the measure under pressure from the White House and colleagues.
"I would, however, like to note that it is most unfortunate that we are not addressing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell at this...

Pawlenty on health care

July, 23rd 2009
Based upon a FOX appearance, I'd say he has issues both with Obama and, I would conjecture, Romney on the subject.
Re: Obama, he said of the (large) non-tax-hike-"paid for" portion of the current health care proposal:
The rest will be paid for by saving waste, fraud, and abuse. If you believe that, then I've got some January tee time in northern Minnesota.
Re: Romney, he said that the cost of the Massachsetts model "has nearly tripled in just 36 months and they're looking for...

Someone looking to make Murtha/Moran corruption an issue in 2010?

July, 22nd 2009
I received this in my inbox earlier, I presume because of my column earlier this year about John Murtha. It's a video uploaded by someone called PMAWatcher, PMA being a firm to whom he (and for that matter, my congressman, Jim Moran, a man who I'd vote for just about anyone to oust) seems to have rather extensive and questionable links:

Perhaps this is an indicator that someone-- good governance folks, Republicans, maybe even reform-minded Dems--...

PETA: Shooting self in foot

July, 21st 2009
I'm a big animal lover-- everyone who knows me knows this about me. I cry at those ASPCA ads featuring Sarah McLachlan that air on Saturdays between episodes of What Not To Wear. I donate to a variety of animal charities. I recently freaked out fellow audience members at a screening of Disney's Nature by wailing a bit too loud when the polar bear died. I thought Michael Vick got off way too light. You get the point.
But I've got to say, some news that is admittedly coming to me quite...
